Critical Pedagogy

Through my daily meanderings, I started reading this article about the concept of “critical pedagogy“, an education movement about leading students to become conscious of freedom and how to take actionable steps towards modernized humanization.

It’s fairly idealistic stuff, but it’s interesting. I read this quotation that I liked:

“Freedom is acquired by conquest, not by gift. It must be pursued constantly and responsibly. Freedom is not an ideal located outside of a man; nor is it an idea which becomes myth. It is rather the indispensable condition for the quest for human completion.” — Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed

I like that idea, that freedom is an inherent quality, that it’s a natural desire germinating inside all human beings. Perhaps even inside all living things. The greater problem then is just how to attain it.
